First off, this hasn't really anything much to do with "Go For Broke" (2024). A young lad on a school trip becomes momentarily detached from his school mates, but that's long enough for some people traffickers to apprehend and smuggle him into a den of perversity and brutality. They hadn't factored on his mother, though, who was herself a gang leader in a past life and who has every intention of rescuing her son. Suffice to say that doesn't quite go to plan and so now she (Isabella Leong) finds herself allied with "Su Cheng" (Jenhui Wen) whose sister was also a victim, and on the trail of a family of monstrous individuals led by a patriarch (Sammo Kam-Bo Hung) and enforced by his son (Longzheng Wang) who are planning to host the mother of all parties on their secret "Carnival Island" complete with little fishes like those reputedly enjoyed by the Roman emperor Tiberius many centuries earlier. I thought that the premiss here was quite interesting, and it certainly rates high on the disgust factor but sadly the action scenes are repetitious and, as often happens in films like this, imbue the protagonists with immortal and knife/bullet-proof qualities that do start to make it more akin to a video game than a thriller after a while. It's also far too long and could have easily been condensed down by half an hour to better focus on the menace that there is from a plot that is, admittedly, photographed tightly and for the first few scenes quite action-packed too. The acting is all adequate, but sadly, the story has an inevitability to it's conclusion that isn't really helped by a final twist in the tale that doesn't really do much more than suggest that "Go For Broke 3" might be in the pipe.
